Edgewater Networks Introduces the EdgeConnect 2402 Power over Ethernet
Switch for Converged Voice, Video And Data Networks
EdgeConnect managed Ethernet switch is ideal for hosted VoIP service providers, and is optimized
for converged networking when combined with Edgewater Networks’ EdgeMarc and EdgeView
products
Santa Clara, Calif. – February 13, 2006 Edgewater Networks, Inc., the leader in converged
networking solutions for voice and video over IP, today announced the introduction of its
EdgeConnect 2402 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch. The EdgeConnect provides 24 x 10/100
Mbps autosensing, inline power Ethernet ports and 2 x 10/100/1000 Mbps uplink or high speed
server ports.
Along with the EdgeMarc converged networking appliances, the EdgeConnect 2402PoE provides
customers with a single source for managing data, video and voice over IP traffic. Additionally, the
EdgeConnect allows for simplified VLAN and quality of service (QoS) configuration and improved
administration and management.
Simplified Setup and Broad Interoperability
Supporting a wide range of IP phone endpoints the EdgeConnect provides auto-negotiation for
Ethernet links, is 802.3af and in-line power compliant. Supported 802.3af compliant IP phones
include Polycom IP500, Polycom IP600, Siemens OptiPoint 400, Siemens OptiPoint 410, Siemens
OptiPoint 420, Siemens OptiPoint 600, LG LIP-6804, LG LIP-6812, LG LIP-6830, Mitel 5500,
Uniden UIP200, Aastra 480i, Aastra 9133i and more.
The EdgeConnect 2402PoE also supports pre-802.3af standard phones including Cisco 7960G,
Cisco 7940G, Cisco 7912G and Cisco 7905G phones.
A complete list of interoperable devices can be found at the www.edgewaternetworks.com .
QoS and Reduced Costs
The EdgeConnect 2402PoE reduces per handset costs by eliminating the need for IP phone power
adapters. It also provides important traffic management features for converged networks including
traffic shaping, per port prioritization, 802.1Q tagged VLANs and DiffServ prioritization.
Improved Management and Support
Along with the EdgeView VoIP Support System the EdgeConnect allows for simplified remote
management that translates into fewer onsite calls for Service Providers. Key features include
remote upgrades, configuration backup and restore and port mirroring for advanced diagnostics,
SNMP, http, RMON, DHCP, Telnet and more.
Adding the EdgeConnect 2402PoE to the list of CPE devices supported by EdgeView simplifies
support, reduces costs and takes the hosted Service Provider one step closer to a plug ‘n dial
service delivery model.
“We want to simplify the networking experience for converged environments by offering customers
a feature rich solution and single source for sales and support,” Says Dave Norman, CEO of
Edgewater Networks, Inc.
Converting to EdgeMarc and EdgeConnect led to greater reliability and fewer support calls for
Flatirons Partners, LLC in Boulder, CO. “We had a closet full of equipment for our firewall, router,
and switch. With the EdgeConnect and EdgeMarc, the quality of our VoIP and data service has
significantly improved, not to mention we threw the power bricks in the closet,” said Charlie Travis,
Principal of Flatirons Partners.
Product Features and Price
The EdgeConnect 2402PoE is available now and also offered in convenient, reduced cost 5 pack or
10 pack bundles. Edgewater Networks also offers bundles that include the EdgeMarc 4300T. Please
