Edgewater Networks, Inc. Extends Attack Protection
Model To The Service Provider With The Introduction Of EdgeProtect Series
Session Border Controllers
- EdgeProtect Series products protect managed VoIP service
providers, extend the reach of VoIP services and deliver breakthrough
price/performance
Santa Clara, Calif. – April 19, 2004 – Edgewater
Networks, Inc., today introduced the EdgeProtect Series session border
controllers providing specialized security, NAT/Firewall traversal services
and passive call quality monitoring for service providers. These systems
build on the proven technology used in Edgewater’s popular EdgeMarc
Series appliances by combining topology hiding, dynamic session admission
control and stateful packet inspection to secure critical VoIP and data
infrastructure components such as VoIP softswitches, gateways and media
servers.
Based on industry standard hardware the systems do not require a large
upfront capital investment and provide many important features to managed
VoIP service providers including: topology hiding, a voice and data
firewall, NAT/Firewall traversal, passive call monitoring and an adaptive,
shortest path RTP architecture that minimizes the effects of jitter
and latency on voice calls.
“Providers seeking to capitalize on the growing hosted VoIP services
market face a real dilemma in developing intelligent infrastructure
that quickly supports new subscribers without compromising the security
and availability of the service,” said Dave Norman Chief Executive
Officer of Edgewater Networks, Inc. “The EdgeProtect Series is
a scalable solution that represents an innovative way of protecting
infrastructure assets at a significantly lower price per call than competitive
solutions.”
EdgeProtect Series products use a dynamic access control list to authenticate
VoIP subscribers as they register with the hosted service. This authentication
eliminates the need to manually program IP addresses of valid subscribers
in other firewalls around the perimeter of the data center to enable
scalability while reducing the workload of operations personnel. This
also enables the service provider to easily support mobile VoIP subscribers
that perform frequent addressing changes.
“We have been using Edgewater’s EdgeMarc appliances as the
point of demarcation at the CPE for our voice and data service with
great success,” said Paul Kratz, responsible for Network Systems
at Communications Xchange, a CLEC and inter-exchange carrier, “Deploying
the EdgeProtect product will enable us to protect our data center as
well as deliver voice services using NAT/Firewall traversal to locations
where it is not possible to use the EdgeMarc appliance.”
“EdgeProtect Series products are simple to configure, affordable
and scalable.” added Mr. Kratz. “In particular, the ability
of the EdgeProtect product to forward media the shortest IP path between
VoIP endpoints contributes to the overall scalability and will enable
us to deliver a service optimized around voice quality.”
The EdgeProtect Series consists of the EdgeProtect 5400, a high performance
session border controller in a compact 1U design and the EdgeProtect
6400, a carrier-grade, NEBS and ETSI certified platform offering dual
redundant AC or DC power supplies. Both platforms are available in redundant
configurations and can support up to 10,000 concurrent sessions. The
systems can also be clustered for additional scalability and capacity.
EdgeProtect Series products are available immediately and start at US
list price of $9,100. For additional product information please visit
