Edgewater Networks And Xten Announce Partnership To Deliver Joint Solution That Speeds Deployment Of SIP Softphones

- Innovative use of standards-based technologies by both companies will simplify the task of connecting users to VoIP networks

Santa Clara, California, and Burnaby, Canada, December 2, 2003 – Edgewater Networks, Inc. and Xten, announced today that the companies are working together to automate the installation and configuration of Xten’s softphones when deployed in combination with any Edgewater EdgeMarc Series appliance. This functionality dramatically reduces the time, costs and complexity normally associated with the provisioning of endpoints in a VoIP network.

“Working with a best-in-class solution provider such as Xten to deliver plug ‘n dial capabilities for softphones is another example of our commitment to simplifying the deployment of VoIP,” said Dave Norman, Chief Executive Officer of Edgewater Networks, Inc.

“As a company that has always focused on the ease-of-use of our software we are very pleased to be working with Edgewater Networks on this capability,” said Erik Lagerway, Co-Founder and President of Xten Networks, Inc. “It will improve the overall out-of-box experience for VoIP users and significantly reduce installation times for our mutual service provider customers.”

Using the joint solution VoIP subscribers can simply connect a PC running X-PRO or X-Lite software to a LAN segment attached to an EdgeMarc appliance and receive all of the necessary parameters for voice connectivity. In addition to provisioning the softphones, EdgeMarc series appliances resolve NAT/Firewall traversal problems by providing a “voice-aware” firewall that supports SIP, MGCP, H.323 or SCCP to protect the enterprise LAN. They also provide passive call quality monitoring and traffic management to ensure toll quality voice when using the same WAN link for both voice and data traffic.
