According to a recent report: SDN, NFV & Network Virtualization Ecosystem 2017-2030, service providers – both mobile and fixed-line – have made significant investments in software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) across a number of use cases, including the ever-popular software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN). The advantages of the technologies are known to aid the explosive growth of mobile traffic, but can also reduce the CapEx and OpEx burden by relieving service providers of their dependence on costly proprietary hardware platforms.
